Comunidades Quilombolas na terra da luz: organização e luta por direitos no Ceará
The formation of quilombos in Brazil dates to the 16th century and emerged as a form of resistance to the living and working conditions imposed during thecolonial and imperial periods. Today, the visibility of these communities has led to a redefinition of the concept of quilombo, aiming to encompass the different contexts of land ownership by predominantly Black populations in the country. The main objective of this research was to mark the existence of these forms of struggle, the search for rights, and the challenges of quilombo self-organization. A qualitative approach was used, including the collection of documents and bibliographies related to the discussions with state-level references of the quilombola movement and their formative spaces, with a focus on the document “State Mapping of Quilombola Communities in Ceará,” released in May 2019. Many challenges remain ahead when it comes to achieving rights, and, above all, maintaining territories, as land titling is a lengthy process full of obstacles.
