Construção de um protocolo terapêutico ocupacional de prevenção e manejo de delirium para terapia intensiva
Delirium is a clinical syndrome characterized by an acute disturbance of attention and consciousness, often observed in patients hospitalized in Intensive Care Units (ICUs). Early identification and proper management of delirium are crucial to minimize associated comorbidities. Occupational Therapy stands out as an effective non-pharmacological approach in promoting the stimulation of procedural skills and hospital adaptation. The aim of this study was to develop an Occupational Therapy Protocol for the Prevention and Management of Delirium for Intensive Care Units. The researchwas conducted through an Integrative Review of the literature, which sought to identify scientific evidence that could contribute to the development of the Protocol, consisting of a Flowchart, a Work Instruction, and a Care Indicator Sheet, to be used by the Occupational Therapy Service at the Gaspar Vianna Hospital Clinics Foundation. The search was conducted in February 2025 in the PUBMED, LILACS, and COCHRANE LIBRARY databases. A total of 504 articles were found, and after applying the inclusion criteria, 8 articles were selected and included in the study. The results of this study describe the main findings from the identified evidence, as well as the content of the developed care documents. The implementation of this Protocol aims to contribute to better operationalization and standardization of the processes involved in Occupational Therapy; to better decision-making, monitoring, and measurement of results; and to contribute to the greater effectiveness of actions in delirium prevention and management.
