Acute pancreatitis has become one of the most prevalent diseases in young adults, associated with increased sedentary lifestyle, obesity due to poor diet, stress, and higher alcohol consumption. The most common cause is biliary tract. Diagnosis is based on clinical, biochemical, and imaging studies. Treatment depends on the severity of the condition but is based on fluid intake, analgesia, early enteral nutrition, and treating the underlying cause. Mortality is low, but severe cases require intensive care. A descriptive, cross-sectional, observational, statistical study was conducted on the clinical characterization of pancreatitis in patients admitted to the emergency department of HGZMF No. 1. With a sample of 84 clinical records, it was observed that the predominance was in women, with presentation from 49 years of age, more frequently in those 59 years of age, who had a diet rich in carbohydrates and low physical activity, 32.1% reported alcohol consumption, this being the third cause of pancreatitis, biliary origin with 58.3%, confirmed by elevated pancreatic enzymes, office studies and clinical, only 2.4% were considered chronic cases and the rest corresponded to acute pancreatitis, being very useful to establish new prevention, care and follow-up strategies, as well as to guide future research on therapeutic management.
