Bahía de San Quintín: laboratorio natural para el estudio del ciclo marino del nitrógeno
Nitrogen is one of the main drivers of primary productivity in marine ecosystems. This article explores the key biogeochemical pathways for the balance of this element in San Quintín Bay, Baja California. To this aim, a description of the main factors influencing the activity of both known processes and novel, recently proposed, or accepted removal pathways in the marine environment will be provided. In addition, it examines how oyster farming activity inthe bay may play a role in nitrogen input and removal fluxes. Our review highlights SanQuintín Bay as a "natural laboratory" for the study of nitrogen cycling and as a sentinel of environmental and climate variability
