Arrabidaea chica verlot como recurso estratégico: prospecção de aplicações científicas e tecnológicas emergentes
Studies on Arrabidaea chica, a brazilian climbing shrub rich in phenolic compounds with therapeutic potential, have demonstrated anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, antifungal, and antiparasitic properties, in addition to antioxidant, healing, antiangiogenic, and antiproliferative effects. Aiming to analyze the technological and scientific landscape regarding extraction methods used to obtain extracts from this plant and its therapeutic properties, this study is a prospection. To this end, the scientific databases PubMed, Science Direct, and SciELO, and the patent repositories PatentScope and INPI were consulted, searching for patents on the extraction and therapeutic applications of A. chica. The searches used the keywords "Arrabidaea chica" and "extraction", combined with the Boolean operator "AND". Analysis of the publication trend over the last five years revealed that the years 2020, 2021, and 2022 presented the highest number of publications, followed by a progressive decline. However, it has been shown that this is a versatile plant and can be used in various ways, presenting numerous benefits. Its antioxidant properties are widely researched, indicating significant results such as the cytotoxic effect on cancer cell lines. Among the reviewed patents, the applications of A. chicaextract range from bone and tissue regeneration formulations, treatments for skin diseases, oral and topical pharmaceutical formulations to medications for skin and gastrointestinal lesions and sun protection. Although the described extraction technologies are promising, in-depth studies are needed to explore and prove the mechanisms of action of the compoundsfound in A. chicaextracts, aiming for a better understanding of their principles, especially in the medicinal context.
