Agua de acuíferos usada para riego de forrajes en Ahumada, Chihuahua, México
Irrigation water is crucial to producing fodder, which generates the emission of greenhouse gasses and the loss of aquifers in arid areas of Mexico. 77% of the country's freshwater is used for agricultural irrigation. Various products that require aquifers' water are grown in the nor;hern zone. The objective of the work was to analyze the number of agricultural fields and the water used to produce fodder in the municipality of Ahumada, Chihuahua. Google Earth images, the water footprint, and the production volume (2007-2021) were used for this. For 2012-2021, the cultivated area was 28,635.96 ha, representing an increase of 38.32% compared to the 2007-2015 period. On an annual average, 226, 081, 806.21 m3 (2007-2021) were irrigated to produce livestock feed.
