Afrovelhice: uma outra leitura para o envelhecimento populacional brasileiro
This work investigates a new possibility of defining the aging of black people in Brazil, given the socioeconomic challenges faced by the population and expressed in the most recent demographic data released by research institutes. Drawing on discussion on regimes of power and dialogue with authors from different eras, we think of “Afro-old age” as a concept in the issue of population aging in view of the invisibility arising from practical homogenization. The hypothesis is that the discourse on Brazilian population aging perpetuates the lack of focus on less favored groups, so that to maintain the current power relations. Such historical compositions clearly tend to repeat models that combine values of subtlety and social discard are added.
