Adherencia al uso de métodos de barreras para la prevención de infecciones de transmisión sexual en estudiantes de secundaria de un colegio de la ciudad de Neiva-Huila 2025-1
This study aimed to identify adherence to the use of barrier methods for the prevention of sexually transmitted infections (STIs) among high school students at a school in Neiva-Huila during the 2025-1 academic term. A quantitative, cross-sectional descriptive design was employed, using validated questionnaires (ECI and CAP) to assess knowledge, attitudes, and practices related to HIV and other STIs. The sample included 44 students between 14 and 17 years of age. The findings revealed an acceptable level of knowledge about HIV, particularly regarding its transmission routes and prevention, although significant gaps were identified concerning vertical transmission, the window period, and other STIs such as syphilis, gonorrhea, and hepatitis B. While 93% of participants reported the intention to use a condom during their first sexual encounter, only 86% actually did so, indicating a gap between intention and practice. Additionally, myths and confusion persist regarding contraceptive and barrier methods. The study concludes that it is urgent to implement comprehensive sexual education programs that strengthen key knowledge, promote the correct use of barrier methods, and reduce contextual and sociocultural barriers.
