Analysis of steam generator at low power : A CFD study

The purpose of the thesis was to develop a numerical model with CFD of a steam generatorar at the nuclear power plant located at Ringhals, Sweden. The CFD simulation was performed using a multiphase model together with energy sources to simulate the behavior in the steam generator. Since little validation data was available, all the error sources and simplifications had to be investigated and taken to it’s minimum. Sensitivity studie were made for important parameters such as flow rate, power distribution and temperature. From the results conclusions could be made that the model successfully managed to capture the phenomena and trends happening in the steam generator but the models simplifications limit the numerical accuracy of the results. The purpose of the thesis was achieved with good results and it would be interesting to remove the simplifications and evaluate a complete model in the future.
