The Afro-Colombian Women’s Movement and Political Agency : A Study of the Mobilization of Afrodescendant Women in Nortern Cauca
This study examines how grassroots activism led by Afrodescendant women in Northern Cauca, Colombia, contributes to institutional political change, with a particular focus on environmental justice and gender equity.Through a qualitative case study approach, the research explores the role of Afrodescendant women as political agents who mobilize collective action to influence public policies and drive social transformation.Drawing on interviews and document analysis, the study highlights the ways in which these women navigate political structures, leverage community-based networks, and advocate for environmental and social rights. The findings underscore the significance of gendered and racialized experiences in shaping political agency and policy advocacy, revealing how grassroots movements not only challenge local power dynamics but also contribute to broader political discourse in Colombia. This research aims to contribute to a deeper understanding of the intersection between gender, race, and political mobilization in contexts of social inequality and environmental struggle.
