Розвиток української лінгвостилістики: здобутки мовознавців 50-60 років ХХ століття
The article analyzes one of the stages in the development of stylistics in the Ukrainian language – the 1950s and 1960s. Attention is drawn to the significant linguostylistic works of L. Bulakhovskyi, I. Bilodid, B. Kulyk, O. Masyukevych, V. Vashchenko, A. Koval, I. Cherednychenko, and others. L. Bulakhovskyi’s «Essays on General Linguistics» (1955) reflects on the stylistic load of individual lexical means and the individual style of the writer. In his work «Questions of the Development of the Language of Ukrainian Soviet Fiction» (1955), I. Bilodid highlighted the main phenomena of language and style in postwar Ukrainian fiction: new features in the interpretation of word meanings, historical vocabulary and phraseology, terminological vocabulary, etc. The stylistic use of lexical, phraseological, morphological, and syntactic means is analyzed in the «Collection of Exercises in Stylistics for Secondary School» (1958) by B. Kulyk and O. Masyukevych. An attempt to create a systematic course in stylistics was made by V. Vashchenko («Stylistic Phenomena in the Ukrainian Language» 1958). The manual addresses the most important task – to describe the stylistic means established in the national language. In A. Koval’s publication «Practical Stylistics of the Ukrainian Language» (1960), we observe a significant advantage of the functional-stylistic approach to the study of stylistics over the language-level approach. I. Cherednychenko’s study «Essays on General Stylistics of Modern Ukrainian Language» (1962) is recognized as a fundamental work that analyzes the state of stylistics research, characterizes functional styles, and examines lexical-stylistic, word-formation-stylistic, morphological-stylistic, and syntactic-stylistic resources of the Ukrainian language. In I. Bilodid’s publication «The Development of the Languages of Socialist Nations of the USSR» (1967), the signifi cance, subject, scope, structure, and tasks of stylistics are defined, as well as an analysis of the concept of language style and theoretical issues of Ukrainian oral literary speech, among other topics. In the 1950s and 1960s, stylistics finally differentiated and emerged as a science about the stylistic system of the national language, becoming a distinct field of study and a full-fledged academic discipline; the demarcation of theoretical and practical stylistics began; and research at various levels of stylistics was resumed.
