Vagen till en lyckad onboardingprocess? : En studie om jamforelsen mellan ett arbetsgivar- och arbetstagarperspektiv pa onboarding.

Onboarding is the process by which an individual is introduced, adapts within a new organization and job role. Onboarding take place through different socialization tactics that can vary between organizations. The onboarding process starts when the candidate applies for the position, the recruitment process becomes the first link between the individual and the organization. Through well-being, belonging and understanding of the new employee's role and the organizational culture in the workplace, motivation and commitment can increase in the individual. Therefore it can result in long-term benefits for the organization such as reduced employee turnover, strengthened brand and higher productivity. The purpose of the study is therefore to investigate which onboarding strategies are used within a municipality and how the new employees experience the onboarding process. The aim is to gain a holistic understanding of the phenomenon of onboarding by starting from both an employer- and employee perspective. The data of the study has been collected using a qualitative method consisting of semi-structured interviews. The material has then been analyzed using Bauer's (2010) model for a successful onboarding process, Van Maanen & Schein's (1977) six different strategy pairs for organizational socialization, and Malin Lindelöw's (2016) six important elements for a successful introduction. The sample consists of four new employees and four managers/HR employees within a municipality in Sweden. The study has structured different themes that aim to answer the questions. The results show that the municipality has a clear template to follow when onboarding, but that the managers can choose to what extent they want to use it. All new employees experienced the first contact with the municipality as very positive, and most experienced the onboarding process as good. However, they highlight areas of improvement where they would have liked a longer introduction time and more use of mentors as support. The employer highlights an area of improvement that is already under development, which includes digital tools that will automate parts of the onboarding process in order to streamline and relieve managers. Keywords: onboarding, workplace introduction, socialization tactics, new employees, organizational socialization
