Vetenskap i jämförelse med vardagsuppfattning : En kvalitativ studie av lokala uppfattningar och vetenskapliga studier kring ökenspridning i norra Nigeria
There are several areas in the world where desertification is expanding. One of those areas in the world is the Sahel and specifically in northern Nigeria .Where there are serious problems for the local population in rural areas of northern Nigeria. Therefore, it is important that research is constantly updated in order to develop methods and knowledge to be able to handle it. Even though there is a lot of research on this, it is important that it is reviewed and compared with what people who actually live there experience of the situation. The aim of the study is to investigate whether people in rural areas of northern Nigeria perceive desertification in a way that is consistent with how it is presented in current research. To achieve this aim, the following questions are answered: - How do people in rural areas of northern Nigeria perceive the development of desertification in rural areas? - How do they view the links between terrorism and climate change in the country? - What strategies do they consider to be most effective in combating desertification? A qualitative methodology with semi-structured interviews where two people with life experience from northern Nigeria were interviewed to achieve the goal of the study. The results show that much of what is covered in the research is similar to what people in rural areas in northern Nigeria experience. Where human activities are largely responsible for desertification in northern Nigeria because the methods used are not sustainable and leads to consequences. Another point is that terrorism is affecting desertification to a large extent in northern Nigeria, because people are forced to move to new places, which leads to new areas becoming densely populated. People in rural areas feel that the knowledge about managing desertification is there, but that they do not have the right resources or help from the state to combat desertification.
