Vad har liraglutid för effekt på patienter med Polycystiskt ovarialsyndrom (PCOS)? : En litteraturstudie

Introduction: Polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) is a common hormonal condition in women of childbearing age that is marked by polycystic ovaries, irregular ovulation, and high levels of androgens. PCOS is closely linked to metabolic disorders, including obesity, insulin resistance, and a heightened risk of cardiovascular disease. These variables amalgamate hormonal, metabolic, and cardiovascular risks are resulting in a complicated clinical presentation. Liraglutide, a GLP-1RA, is mostly used for the management of obesity and type 2 diabetes mellitus. Research indicates that it may also address PCOS by enhancing insulin sensitivity, facilitating weight loss, and modifying hormonal equilibrium. Objectives: The aim of this literature review is to examine and analyze the research on the efficacy and safety of liraglutide in the treatment of polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), focusing on its impact on weight, insulin resistance, hormonal balance, and cardiovascular risk factors. Method: In this study, academic papers from PubMed were used to find reserch by searching for "(Effect of Liraglutide) AND (Polycystic Ovary Syndrome).". Five pertinent studies for further research were selected after a comprehensive screening procedure. Results: Five studies were selected based on that liraglutide helps women with PCOS lose a lot of weight, improves insulin sensitivity, restores hormonal balance, and increases the number of times they have periods. The studies indicate decreased abdominal adiposity, favorable metabolic alterations, and a possible decrease in cardiovascular risk factors. The predominant adverse effects were moderate and associated with the gastrointestinal system. Conclusion: Liraglutide offers several potential advantages for individuals with PCOS, particularly for those with obesity and insulin resistance. The medication has shown to enhance fertility, mitigate cardiovascular risk factors, and rectify hormonal abnormalities.
