Utveckling av ett lokalt PDF-rapporteringsverktyg med Java : Design och implementering för dokumentautomation

This thesis investigates whether an on-premises portable document format generation tool can replace a cloud-based document automation service in terms of performance, security and workflow integration. The motivation stems from concerns around data control and dependency on external platforms such as Microsoft Power Automate. To address these issues, a standalone Java application was developed and evaluated using a design science research approach. The prototype supports template population and automated portable document format export. Performance of the tool was evaluated using four templates of increasing complexity. Results show that the on-premises tool meets the performance threshold, but also offers less variance compared to the cloud-based solution. These findings suggest that an on-premises alternative is not only feasible, but potentially beneficial for organizations with data and performance concerns.
