Tratamentos térmicos, propriedades e aplicabilidade do aço SAE 1040
Steels, which are essentially iron-carbon alloys, offer examples of most of the reactions and microstructures available to tune material properties; are relatively complex in nature and their definition is not simple, strictly speaking, commercial steels are not binary alloys, despite their main alloying elements being iron and carbon, they always contain other secondary elements, present in the structure due to the processing processes. manufacturing. The objective of this study was to understand what guides the properties, applicability and heat treatments of SAE 1040 steel. The work proposes a bibliographic review of the literature, through a search carried out on the SciELO (Scientific Electronic Library Online) platforms, Web of Science and ScienceDirect. Of the articles selected for the study, there were scientific contributions related to the composition characteristics, properties and applicability of high-strength steels, as well as different treatments applied for different purposes. Based on the results presented in the aforementioned work, it is observed that the application of common steels in requests that require greater mechanical resistance, replacing more elaborate materials and reducing costs, can be done by increasing the resistance of the steels through heat treatments.
