Teorías Sociales y Grindr: Reflexiones sobre Poder, Género y Sexualidad
This article aims to develop a state of the art on the Grindr app and its study from various theoretical approaches within the social sciences and humanities, emphasi-zing the influence of theories such as Michel Foucault’s biopolitics and biopower, which analyze how Grindr functions as a social control mechanism that normalizes sexual be-haviors. Concepts such as utopias and heterotopias are also explored, along with Judith Butler’s gender performativity, to understand how users construct identities on this plat-form. Pierre Bourdieu’s theory of male domination is applied to examine how Grindr reinforces heteronormativity and gender hierarchies. In addition, the dehumanization of the body in the digital era is discussed according to Paula Sibilia, with an analysis of sex-gender coherence rules and extimacy in relation to online intimacy. Gayatri Spivak’s theories are also applied to analyze the application from postcolonial, subaltern, and inter-sectional perspectives. This critical analysis provides a comprehensive view of Grindr as a complex virtual space that influences the sexuality, relationships, and identity of its users.
