Strains of the genus Acinetobacter, potential degraders of plastics

In this work, the potential of strains of the genus Acinetobacter for the degradation of various plastic substrates was investigated, including: terephthalic acid (TPA), bis(2-hydroxyethyl) terephthalate, polycaprolactone, impranil, polyethylene terephthalate, polyhydroxybutyrate, linear low density polyethylene and polypropylene. The study was conducted on plates with mineral agar which contained 2% each substrate as carbon source. Acinetobacter strains isolated from the polluted environment were investigated.
