Second Reaction: Look
Ahead of the spring season, my co-teacher and I read the picturebook Look by Gabi Snyder with a mixed-aged classroom of 3-to-5-year olds.We reflect on the book's themes of mindfulness, observation, engagement, reflection, and pattern recognition as we share our experiences and implementations with children.Look is layered with meaning and serves as an effective tool for social-emotional and cognitive development. The open-ended structure, rich illustrations, and grounding message make it a valuable resource for preschool-aged children as well as children beyond the age of five. While we noticed that the book's illustrations at times felt overwhelming to some readers, we found that with adult facilitation we could fully unlock its potential with the children.
