A resolução de problemas por alunos do 1º ano de escolaridade

This study aims to understand how first-graders (N=21), aged 6-7, solve Mathematics problems. Qualitative methods in a case study approach were used. An intervention comprising 4-sessions on problem-solving was implemented. The results show an increase on students’ autonomy during the sessions on problem solving; Given encouragement, informal problem-solving strategies were presented by students, who progressively gave way to visual representation strategies, mostly using drawings and diagrams. Students' difficulties were identified during the oral and written explanation of resolution processes.
