O estudo de intervenções contemporâneas na arquitetura do Movimento Moderno: Knoll Modernism Prize
Modern Movement architecture has gained an increasingly prominent place among assets of preservation interest. Additionally, the sustainable agenda makes such architectures, often composed largely of concrete, considered for reuse rather than replacement with new constructions. Considering these factors, changes imposed by usage demands and contemporary updates have been the subject of studies focused on reuse as well as protection as heritage to be safeguarded. In this context, the World Monuments Fund, based in New York, together with the American company Knoll, created the “World Monuments Fund/Knoll Modernism Prize,” which since 2008 has awarded contemporary interventions that reuse Modern Movement architectures and promote appropriate safeguarding efforts for these assets. This article thus presents the awarded interventions with the aim of examining the criteria and identifying strategic key points for preservation and adaptive reuse of these buildings, aiming to understand the techniques used and their potential application in the Brazilian context.
