Parásitos presentes en el pámpano adulto (peprilus medius) en las costas de pedernales Ecuador

The research compares the parasites present in the pompano (Peprilus medius). They were analyzed at the Aquaculture Health Center of the Technical University of Manabí, where four pompano specimens were dissected from four locations along the coast of the Pedernales Canton: Cojimies, Cañaveral, Pedernales, and La Cabuya, in the province of Manabí. The fish were examined to extract the organs submitted for review. After microscopic analysis, the following parasites were detected: one Cirolona sp (adult) species was observed in the mouth of a male specimen. Two Lecithocladium sp (adults) were detected in the intestine and stomach of two specimens (male and female). Three Oaxacotyle oaxacensis (adults) were determined in the gills of two specimens (male and female). Five Anisakis sp. larvae (Type II) were found in the intestine, stomach, liver, and mesenteries of the four specimens (male and female). Each tissue or organ was placed in Petri dishes with 0.9% saline solution for subsequent examination under a stereomicroscope. The collected parasites were fixed, stained, and rinsed according to taxonomic group, following the instructions of Vidal-Martínez et al. (2002). The platyhelminthes (monogeneans, digeneans, and cestodes) were flattened, fixed in 4% hot formalin, and after 24 hours in 4% formalin, they were transferred to 70% alcohol and stained with Meyer's carmine. The nematodes were fixed in 70% alcohol and rinsed with gradual solutions of glycerin-alcohol and lactic acid-alcohol. Cirolona sp has not been reported as a parasite of Peprilus medius
