Soil of Survival

We conducted this experiment to study antibiotic resistance by analyzing soil samples. Using soil samples from Sprout House and the Cunningham and diluted them through the method of serial dilution, to get countable individual colonies. Then we spread these diluted samples onto a master plate to allow the bacteria to grow. Finally, candidates were selected to target and identify ESKAPE pathogens and their safe relatives. By doing this experiment, it helps us understand how antibiotic resistance bacteria, like ESKAPE pathogens, are spreading in the environment. By looking at soil samples, we can see where these tough bacteria come from and how they might affect public health. This experiment has helped me understand antibiotic resistance in the environment, especially with tough ESKAPE pathogens. By finding resistance bacteria in soil, I’m hoping this helps come up with a better way to tackle the rising problem of antibiotic resistance in public health.
