Modellering av kyl- och värmesystem för en blytestningsanläggning : Designoptimering med COMSOL Multiphysics

The increasing demand for sustainable energy has led to a renewed interest in Lead-Cooled Fast Reactors. One of the main challenges with such reactors is their longevity due to corrosion and erosion. To study the effects of erosion and corrosion on materials is a test facility called SEFACE under construction at KTH. However, the test facility needs a heating and cooling system. The goal with this report is to assist with the design of the heating and cooling system with help of a simulation program called COMSOL. A mockup was built to calibrate unknown parameters in COMSOL in order to evaluate different design configurations. The heating and cooling system must be able to maintain temperatures between 350C and 550C. From an operator’s standpoint, this should be achieved through a cost effective and simple design without the need for adjustments. Four different design configurations were evaluated in COMSOL, and configuration A) was proven to be the best option, with a moveable cooler. Although the cooler needs to be moved to reach the desired temperatures, this is acceptable considering that the tests will be conducted over an extended period of time, and that it is the most cost-effective solution. However, further simulations and design configurations can be explored in the future to optimize the system.
