Mive : Ett inkluderande hjälpmedel vid luftvägsstopp
An airway obstruction is a life-threatening condition in which a foreign object blocks the airways. Each year, around 100 cardiac arrests in Sweden are caused by such obstructions. When this occurs, the situation can quickly become critical, requiring immediate assistance from another person, most effective through the Heimlich maneuver. Over 5.5 % of the Swedish population is affected by physical disabilities, and the extent to which it influences their everyday life differs from person to person. People with physical limitations may struggle to have the Heimlich maneuver performed on them , and may also find it difficult to perform it on someone else. A majority of the general public, including those who live or work closely with individuals who have physical disabilities, report uncertainty in how to respond to an airway obstruction. There is currently no assistive device on the market that replicates the Heimlich maneuver which is adapted for individuals with physical disabilities. The project group has developed Mive, an inclusive assistive device that replicates the Heimlich maneuver and is specifically designed for people with physical disabilities. The concept is complemented by a mobile application that provides instructions and can also be used for preventive purposes.
