La Institución Libre de Enseñanza: Un Modelo de educación laica y progresista
The Free Institution of Education (Institución Libre de Enseñanza, ILE), founded in 1876 by Francisco Giner de los Ríos, marked a milestone in the educational history of Spain. It emerged as a response to the traditional educational model, promoting principles of freedom, neutrality, and the inviolability of science. Inspired by Krausism, the ILE advocated for a secular and progressive education, distancing itself from the religious and political influences that dominated educational institutions at the time. This innovative approach aimed not only at academic excel-lence but also at the holistic development of individuals, emphasizing values such as ethics, intellectual autonomy, and critical thinking. The ILE became a benchmark for pedagogical modernization, profoundly influencing the cultural and social renewal of Spain.
