La conmemoración de la independencia y su impacto económico, financiero y tributario del sector alojamiento en Riobamba 2023

The commemoration of Riobamba’s independence stands as one of the city’s most significant civic and cultural events, with a strong influence on the social and economic dynamics of the canton. However, the lack of adequate public policies and management strategies may hinder the consolidation of this temporary surge into a sustainable economic development opportunity. This study aims to analyze the economic, financial, and tax impact generated by these festivities on the accommodation sector, based on indicators such as job creation, hotel occupancy rates, fiscal contribution, and increased local economic flow. A quantitative approach with a non-experimental design was applied, using data from the Committee for Tourism Promotion, Cultural Dissemination, and Economic Dynamization of the Riobamba canton, as well as the Open Data platform of the Internal Revenue Service. The findings show that, during April 2023, the accommodation sector experienced a positive economic impact, reflected in high occupancy rates, significant revenue, job creation, and a favorable return on municipal investment. Furthermore, the celebrations led to increased consumption and tax collection, positioning tourism as a key driver of local economic dynamization.
