Intervalo de tempo entre o rastreio citológico e o seguimento das mulheres portadoras de lesões precursoras do câncer da cérvice uterina, em Campo Grande-MS, 2014 –2018
Cervical cancer affects women of reproductive age. Screening is an important prevention strategy with the aim of reducing the number of cases and allowing early diagnosis. Almost half of women with cervical cancer have never been screened and another 10% have not been screened in the five years prior to diagnosis. The WHO recommendation is that 80% of women between 25 and 64 years old, undergo Pap smear tests every three years. In Brazil, screening is opportunistic. With the implementation of the Unified Health System (SUS) and the Family Health Strategy (ESF), Pap smear coverage in the national territory increased to 87.6%, however, screening and follow-up protocols are complex and ineffective in reducing disease. In the municipality of Campo Grande, the use of the reference and counter-reference system is not a common practice. The evaluation of the interval between cytological screening and follow up of women with cervical cancer precursor lesions in the city of Campo Grande, based on analysis of data from SISCAN and the municipal archives, confirm that most women with altered cytology do not perform the procedure follow-up according to the established protocol.
