Kalkylmetod för kostnadseffektiva beslut inom lagerhantering
ABSTRACT Date: 09-06-2025 Level: Master thesis in Product- and Process Development, 30 ECTS Institution: School of Innovation, Design and Engineering, IDE, Mälardalen University Authors: Ruqaya Al-asadi Selina Awaijan 001004 011001 Title: Calculation method for cost-effective decisions in inventory management Supervisor: Viktorija Badasjane, Mälardalen university Jannie Östergård, Scania Keywords: Calculation method, Decision making, Current situation analysis, Lead time, Cost, Capacity planning. Research questions: RQ1: How can a current state analysis be used as the basis for developing a calculation method? RQ2: How can the proposed calculation method contribute to improved inventory management decisions? Purpose: This study aims to develop a calculation method for inventory management in a production company, with a focus on integrating cost, capacity and lead time in decision-making. Method: The study is based on a case study with an abductive approach and combines qualitative and quantitative methods. Data collection has been carried out through observations, semi-structured interviews and numerical analysis, which have been processed with thematic analysis and calculation methods. Conclusion: The current situation analysis enabled a systematic identification and quantification of parameters in the eastern logistics flow, such as consumption levels, pallet sizes, transport distances and costs. This formed the basis for the development of a calculation method that can be used as a decision-making basis for pallet placement and warehouse optimization. The proposed calculation method enables comparisons of alternative flow routes within the eastern logistics flow, based on cost, capacity, and lead time, thereby contributing to more objective and flexible decisions in inventory management.
