A influência e a permanência da praça onze no rio de janeiro: Memória inscrita no espaço: The influence and permanence of praça onze in rio de janeiro: Memory inscribed in the space
The aim of this article is to highlight the relevance of Praça Onze de Junho as a unique public space for the history of the city of Rio de Janeiro. It starts from the construction of its spatiality-still in the 19th century-until its destruction on the occasion of urban reforms in the 1940s. However, its magnitude remains in the form of different traces that mark the region of Pequena Africa (Little Africa), on the outskirts of the central area of the city, constantly remembered as a reference place for the black population, immigrants and Samba Community in the city.It is concluded that the memory linked to the history of Praça Onze consolidates its symbolic existence, which passes through time and affirms itself as a place of strong cultural identity in the constant disputes that compete in the carioca narratives, even if it is a square no longer physically existing in space.
