Industrial Imprint: Metal lon Differences Between Storm Basin and Warehouse Runoff Water

This study investigates the quality of rainwater from two different sites at Johnson County Community College. Samples were collected from the west side of a stormwater basin on the south side of campus and from the warehouse runoff water ducts on the north side of campus. The research addresses contamination issues since the initial runoff water can accumulate pollutants from the environment. This occurs because rainwater can pick up debris, chemicals, and microorganisms from surfaces, making it less safe for consumption or environmental discharge. Additionally, the basin water flows into a nearby creek, raising environmental concerns. Experimental methods included strip testing comparison, pH determination, water hardness, titration, and metal ion analysis by flame atomic absorption spectroscopy. Some results for the two different water samples were compared with different methods to determine validity and reproducibility of results.
