Incidencia del Absentismo Escolar en la Comunidad Valenciana. Curso 2021-2022
School absenteeism in Spain is included in the Constitution and in educational and social welfare laws. They all establish the compulsory nature of basic education, which includes compulsory primary, secondary and basic vocational training. However, unjustified student absences are a reality in many educational centers and, paradoxically and despite the political consensus, we do not know their detailed quantification. This research analyzes the incidence of absenteeism in the Valencian Community (Spain) during the 2021-2022 academic year based on the data in the ITACA digital platform of the educational administration, which records absences of more than 560,000 students session by session. Specifically, 113,237 records corresponding to each year (1st, 2nd, 3rd, etc.) of all compulsory schooling were analyzed. The obtained results show that 4.56% of students are truant, 2.63% have more than 25% of unjustified absences, and with between 15% and 25% for the rest. It is present in all stages and stands out in basic vocational training with almost 32%. This is pioneering research due to the volume and detail of the analyzed sample.
