Impacto de la actividad física en el imc de estudiantes de segundo de bachillerato: estudio transversal
This study aimed to determine the correlation between physical activity and Body Mass Index (BMI) in adolescent students from the second year of high school at an educational institution in Salinas, Ecuador. The research was conducted using a quantitative approach and a cross-sectional design. A convenience non-probabilistic sampling method was employed, involving 36 students (20 males and 16 females). Data collection included self-administered surveys on the frequency and duration of physical activity, as well as physical measurements of weight and height to calculate BMI. The results showed that a percentage of students are overweight or obese, with an observed association between low levels of physical activity and higher BMI. It was found that students with a normal BMI are more likely to participate in physical activities, while those who are overweight or obese tend to be less involved in such activities. In conclusion, the findings highlight the need to implement strategies in the Physical Education curriculum that promote regular physical activity as a measure to prevent obesity and other chronic diseases in adolescents.
