Funciones trigonométricas: el impacto del trabajo de campo como estrategia didáctica en el aprendizaje de la Trigonometría

This study proposes an innovative educational alternative for learning trigonometric functions by utilizing fieldwork as a teaching strategy. Its objective was to evaluate the effectiveness of this methodology among first-year students in the Pedagogy of Experimental Sciences: Mathematics and Physics program at the University of Cuenca. The research was conducted in the Trigonometry course during the academic periods of September 2021–February 2022 and September 2022–February 2023. A longitudinal methodology with a mixed approach was applied, combining qualitative and quantitative techniques. Data were collected through surveys conducted with participating students and analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistical tools for quantitative aspects, while qualitative data were examined through content analysis. The results showed that fieldwork facilitates a more meaningful understanding of trigonometric functions, improving both academic performance and students’ attitudes toward the subject. Furthermore, this teaching strategy was positively evaluated as it combined theory and practice in a dynamic and engaging way, enhancing both learning and student motivation. In conclusion, fieldwork proved to be an effective and enriching educational tool for the study of trigonometric functions.
