Har huvudmannaskapet betydelse? : En kvantitativ jämförande studie om lärares Public Service Motivation och institutionella tillit

Is the level of Public Service Motivation (PSM) and institutional trust higher in public sector employment compared to private sector employment? Alternatively, could PSM and institutional trust be more influenced by the nature of the tasks performed rather than the sector of employment? This study examines differences in PSM and institutional trust within a specific group of professionals performing the same tasks in both public and private sectors: Swedish upper secondary school teachers. Through a survey, I investigate differences in PSM and institutional trust between teachers in municipal and independent schools, while also exploring whether there is a relationship between PSM and institutional trust, aiming to uncover potential sectoral distinctions. The most significant findings reveal differences in both PSM and institutional trust between the two school types. Teachers in municipal schools exhibited both higher levels of PSM and stronger institutional trust compared to their counterparts in independent schools. However, a strong correlation between PSM and institutional trust was not identified. Instead, indicators suggest that the relationship may hold for teachers in independent schools but not for those in municipal schools.
