Grado de Obesidad y Niveles de Hemoglobina Glucosilada en Pacientes con Dm Tipo 2 Mayores de 60 Años
An estimated 90% of diabetes cases are type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM2). It's a global health problem linked to factors such as overweight and obesity. This study aimed at analysing the association between the degree of obesity and glycated hemoglobin (HbA1C) levels in patients with DM2 over 60 years of age treated at UMF nº 09 in the city of Frontera, Coahuila. A total of 360 patients were included in a quantitative, retrospective, cross-sectional study. Clinical records were reviewed to obtain socio-demographic data, body mass index (BMI), degree of obesity, comorbidities, HbA1C levels, and oral antidiabetic use. Variables included HbA1C as dependent, obesity as independent and comorbidities, age, sex, weight, height and BMI as intervening variables. The sample had 80% grade I obesity, 13.6% grade II and 6.4% grade III. 39.16% had adequate glycaemic control (HbA1C ≤ 7%), while 43.33% had HbA1C > 8%. The statistical tests (Kruskal-Wallis and Chi-square) revealed p-values of 0.904 and 0.774, respectively, concluding that there was no significant association between the degree of obesity and HbA1C levels in this population.
