Factores Asociados con el Abandono del Tratamiento Insulínico en Pacientes con Diabetes
Introduction. Type II diabetes mellitus affects millions of adults and is associated with 11.3% of deaths worldwide in people aged 20 to 79 years. Control of DM II is poor due to low therapeutic insulin adherence in Mexico. Objective: To analyze the risk factors associated with abandoning insulin treatment in patients with diabetes. Methodology: Descriptive, prospective, cross-sectional, observational, single-center, both sexes from 18 years old, the Morisky Green questionnaire was used to measure therapeutic adherence composed of 4 items with dichotomized responses and 3 levels of adherence: low, medium and high. Descriptive statistics were used for data analysis: frequencies and percentages. Inferential with chi square test for association variables. Results: Total 140 participants, 49% were women and 51% were men, the comorbidities that were most frequently identified were hypertension with 48% and obesity with 31%. The risk factors most frequently found were hypoglycemia after insulin treatment, 19%, and polypharmacy, 19%. Conclusions: We found that there is a statistically significant association regarding the presence of more than 3 risk factors with insulin abandonment.
