Erfarenheter av personcentrerad vård : En allmän litteraturöversikt utifrån sjuksköterskors perspektiv
ABSTRACT Background: Person-centred care is essential for delivering high-quality healthcare, influencing patient satisfaction as well as clinical and economic outcomes. As one of the six key quality indicators in healthcare, it emphasizes respect and responsiveness to patients’ individual needs and values. Since each patient is unique, care must be tailored accordingly. Aim: To provide an overview of nurses’ experiences with person-centred care. Method: A general literature review with descriptive synthesis was conducted, based on eight qualitative nursing science articles, two quantitative studies, and one mixed-method article. Results: Nurses identified a holistic approach and the nurse–patient relationship as central to personcentred care. Communication was highlighted as a key factor in delivering high-quality care and in understanding individual patient needs. A holistic perspective enabled nurses to better tailor care to the person. However, challenges such as time constraints, lack of communication, and a stressful care environment were frequently described as barriers to providing person-centred care. Conclusion: Person-centred care is both a method and a mindset, where the nurse's presence, engagement, and empathy are vital. However, nurses reported several barriers in their interactions with both patients and relatives, making it difficult to consistently implement a person-centred approach in practice. Keywords: Experiences, literature review, person-centered care, registered nurses.
