Estilos de Apego y Asertividad en Hombres y Mujeres Universitarios en una Relación de Pareja
The main objective of this study was to relate attachment and assertiveness styles in people who have a relationship, and to evaluate differences by sex, in the State of Hidalgo, Mexico. The design was non-experimental, with a cross-sectional, correlational type of study; using non-probabilistic sampling, N=200 volunteer participants, undergraduate students, n=100 men and n=100 women were selected (X= 22.40; S.D.=4.49). The following instruments were applied: Adult Attachment Styles Scale for the Mexican Population and Gambrill and Richey Assertiveness Inventory-II. A positive correlation was found between assertiveness and low levels of anxious and avoidant attachment; significant differences were also found by sex, specifically men showed greater avoidant attachment compared to women. It is relevant to highlight that insecure attachment, and poor assertiveness can generate violent behaviors, which are seen as a problem within couple relationships.
