Electrofisiología del corazón humano: De la bioelectricidad celular a las aplicaciones clínicas
Human cardiac electrophysiology has undergone significant evolution, transitioning from the study of cellular bioelectrical mechanisms such as the generation and propagation of action potentials and the function of ion channels to its clinical application in the diagnosis and treatment of heart diseases. The present study aimed to conduct a bibliometric analysis of the scientific output related to this field, in order to identify its temporal evolution, the most influential contributors, and the main thematic areas addressed. To achieve this, studies were retrieved from the Scopus database using a search strategy focused on key terms related to electrophysiology, cellular bioelectricity, and their clinical applications. A total of 409 publications were analyzed using the Bibliometrix software through its Biblioshiny interface. The results revealed a sustained growth in scientific output, with a notable increase over the past two decades. High-impact journals, such as Cardiovascular Research and Journal of Cardiovascular Electrophysiology, along with authors like Dobrev D. and Nattel S., stood out for their influence in the field. Similarly, the United States, Germany, and the United Kingdom were the countries with the highest frequency of contributions, while the most frequently used terms reflected ongoing interest in cellular mechanisms and their clinical application. Collaboration networks revealed strong interconnections among European and North American institutions. In conclusion, this study provides a comprehensive overview of the evolution, key contributors, and thematic trends in cardiac electrophysiology, offering a useful framework to guide future research in the field.
