Dolor anal crónico funcional y neuropático: ¿Cómo debe actuar un cirujano?
Chronic anal pain is a medical condition that affects approximately 11.5% of the population, affecting men and women equally. This condition can be disabling and has a significant impact on the quality of life of those who suffer from it. One of the main challenges in diagnosing chronic anal pain is its complex nature. Diagnosis is mainly based on the exclusion of other pathologies that may cause pain. Which is why these patients often must undergo multiple tests and consultations with various specialists before reaching a definitive diagnosis. This not only affects patients physically, but also psychologically. Both patients and their physicians experience a state of anxiety due to uncertainty and difficulty in identifying the underlying cause of pain. This anxiety can further complicate pain treatment and management. Due to the complexity of chronic anal pain, a multidisciplinary approach involving gastroenterologists, coloproctologists, urologists, gynecologists, psychologists and physiotherapists is recommended to reach an accurate diagnosis with a correct therapeutic approach that can abolish it or, at least, alleviate it. Conclusion: Chronic anal pain is a challenging condition for both patients and healthcare professionals. It’s complicated diagnosis and the psychological impact it causes underscore the importance of a multidisciplinary approach to its treatment. Only through collaboration and comprehensive care can patients be offered relief and improved quality of life.
