Disney Villains : The portrayal of Disney Villains and the contemporary world.

The purpose of this study is to analyse how the dangerous other is constructed with Disney and what changes that can be identified between the original and the remake. The theoretical framework is an intersectional one with elements of Nils Christie's concepts of the ideal perpetrator and victim. The analysis is constructed through a semiotic analysis, where the goal was to uncover hidden meanings through different signs. The notes and signs were thematicised and were the basis of the analysis. The result showed that the villains were created through a variety of things such as gender, race, colour schemes, storyline and sexuality. All of these things actively interact with each other to create the villains and how they are perceived. There were also changes found between the original and remake which could be understood through our contemporary society and what changes it has undergone through the years in regards to sexuality, race, political themes and so on.
