Demokratisering i Subsahariska Afrika: En komparativ fallstudie av Ghana och Malis demokratiseringsprocess
This study examines the democratization processes in Ghana and Mali by analyzing historical factors such as colonial legacies, the transition to independence, and post-independence developments. Using a comparative approach, the research explores why Ghana succeeded in establishing a stable democratic system, while Mali struggled to achieve the same. The analysis reveals that Ghana’s democratization was facilitated by a combination of institutional continuity, reform-oriented leadership, and international support, which strengthened its political and legal frameworks. In contrast, Mali’s democratization efforts were undermined by weak institutions, recurring political instability, and challenges in integrating diverse ethnic and social groups. By comparing these cases, the study highlights the critical role of historical and structural factors in shaping the success or failure of democratization in postcolonial African states.
