Del sueño a la ficción: Macrobio y Guillaume de Lloris
The Roman de la rose is one of the most important French texts of the Middle Ages. This work makes use of allegory to relate the amorous initiation of a young man, and uses a reference to Macrobius to present the dreamlike framework in which the search for his Rose is included. Critics have read this allusion as a mere invocation of an auctoritas that justifies the act of writing. The purpose of this paper, however, is to analyze the various relationships that the French text has with Macrobius' Comentarii Somnium Scipionis in order to demonstrate how the allusion to the late medieval author allows Guillaume de Lloris to create a narrative in which the veil of fiction hides a truth that is itself another fiction.
