Cobertura periodística sobre el techo de cristal en Chile: Propuesta de encuadres informativos

Introduction: The Beijing action platform proposes as one of its strategic purposes to strengthen the role of women in the exercise of power and in the media. Objective: Identify the informative frames used by the digital press that describe women's access to management positions in Chile, which are associated with the glass ceiling phenomenon. Methodology: Through a qualitative content analysis, the news published by three Chilean digital newspapers is reviewed. Results: Four major journalistic frames are identified for the published news: female references, hierarchical position, barriers or obstacles, and role of the State. Discussion: The frames about female participation in management positions do not expose a derogatory or insulting perspective towards women, unlike what has been observed in studies of news frames of women who apply for political positions or information related to sexist violence against women. Conclusions: The main conclusion of the study states that women's access to management positions is a news event, that has informative frames inclined towards increasing female participation in the senior management of public and private organizations, giving relevance to public policies implemented to eliminate any type of employment discrimination.
