Children's perspective on screen time : A qualitative study of how children relate to screen time and the recommendations that exist

In today’s society, there are many discussions about children and their screen time. Research shows both positive and negative effects of screen time in young ages and it is a current never-ending discussion. This study explores how middle school children experience screen time and the existing recommendations for screen time use. Through semi-structed interviews and questionnaires with a qualitive approach this study has gained valuable insights from the children’s perspective. By highlighting their views and reflections, the study shows a more nuanced understanding of the importance of making children’s voices heard on the screen time topic. Since they have a different point of view than adults when it comes to screen time, these insights can work as a valuable foundation for future research regarding the subject. The study shows that children and families have different approaches to screen time. Some are following them closely or have used them as guidelines, while some children do not have any type of rules even though they are aware of the recommendations and both positive and negative effects of screen time. Furthermore, the study will present valuable data regarding children's experience when it comes to being offline in a world that is surrounded by digital media.
