cogniTherapy: una aplicación web para la estimulación y rehabilitación cognitiva de pacientes con Párkinson

In the current landscape of non-pharmacological treatments for Parkinson’s disease, rehabilitation and cognitive stimulation therapies have transitioned into the digital realm through various applications. However, the majority of these platforms adopt a unilateral approach, primarily centered on patient-application interaction, significantly sidelining the involvement of the therapist, an essential figure in the therapeutic process. Moreover, many of these applications do not allow for exercise customization, greatly limiting their utility, as patients with varying levels of cognitive functioning are required to perform the same exercises without the option to tailor each activity according to their specific needs. This article introduces cogniTherapy, an innovative system conceived as a virtual cognitive training space for patients and a comprehensive exercise management tool for therapists. Featuring a total of 15 configurable games evenly distributed across five different cognitive domains (attention, language, memory, executive functions, and visuoconstructive skills) and the implementation of seven key modules (dashboard, patient management, profile, library, game gallery, activities, and sessions), cogniTherapy aims to be an inclusive application for both participants in the therapeutic process: the patient and the therapist. Additionally, its comprehensive approach is expected to provide a more personalized and collaborative cognitive rehabilitation experience. cogniTherapy was developed using cutting-edge languages and technology such as React, JavaScript, Axios, and Phaser 3 on the frontend, and Django REST Framework on the backend. Testing tools like Jest and Django Test were also employed in the development process.
