Ciudades intermedias en Colombia durante el siglo XX: balance bibliográfico de historia urbana
This paper presents a comprehensive bibliographical review of the urban history written in Colombia, focusing specifically on the development of medium-sized cities throughout the 20th century. Beginning with a corpus composed of 41 texts which take into consideration the urban development of 21 medium-sized cities throughout the XXth century, 4 different thematic groups were differentiated in order to categorize the texts depending on the focus of the study. The first group emphasizes political aspects, the second centers on economic factors, the third examines social conditions, and the fourth and final group explores cultural elements. The findings reveal a diverse range of topics and approaches that are used within urban history to study the urban development of the currently considered ‘intermediate’ cities in Colombia throughout the XXth century. Furthermore, the findings show how some cities, such as Pereira or Manizales, have received considerably more attention in academic research compared to other ‘intermediate’ cities.
