In between borderlands: physical and social aspects of the “Trump wall” as discussed in the Mexican media

One of the key promises of Donald Trump’s second presidential term is to finish the construction of the “big, beautiful wall” between the U.S. and Mexico in order to keep unauthorized migrants away from the U.S. While supporters of building the wall believe that this measure is necessary to protect the U.S. against cross-border illegal activity, opponents of this initiative consider it a violation of human rights. The present dissertation explores the physical and social aspects of the “Trump wall” discussed in national and regional Mexican newspapers, based on articles published from January to March 2025. The study reveals that the national newspapers assumed the task of informing their readers about the intentions and actions of the U.S. government in relation to the border wall, whereas the regional ones focused on the wall’s environmental and humanitarian impact on the Mexican side of the border.
