Att möta anhöriga i sorg i samband med dödsfall : En allmän litteraturöversikt av sjuksköterskors erfarenheter
Background: Grief is an emotional response to death, but it can also be experienced before an expected death. Previous research indicates that a lack of information about prognosis or the progression of the disease at the end of life causes relatives to feel a lack of trust in nurses. Relatives express a desire for nurses to emotionally engage in the grieving process, as the support provided by nurses can either facilitate or complicate relatives grieving process. Aim: The aim was to create an overview of nurses' experiences of encountering grieving relatives in the event of a death. Method: A general literature review consisting of a total of eleven articles, seven of which have a qualitative approach, three with a quantitative approach, and one article using a mixed-methods approach. Results: Two themes were identified in the results: The importance of communication and the importance of support. Conclusion: Nurses' support plays a significant role in the grieving process of relatives. Open and honest communication, trust, and good interpersonal relationships are essential in encounters with bereaved relatives. Furthermore, follow-up after death is important for relatives and should be prioritized by nurses. To enhance nurses' ability to communicate with and provide support to grieving relatives, extended education and ongoing training are required.
